How can I find out the legality of an auto insurance advertised online?

I'-'-m shopping around for my car insurance online and I don'-t know how to find out which one is good legally. Please help.

Your best, most effective bet, is to stop doing "do it yourself" insurance, and ask a local agent or broker, who's licensed to do business in your state.Otherwise, you're stuck checking the AM Best ratings of every carrier, and upheld complaints, with your state insurance department. And that can be a LOT of work. Worst of all, it still doesn't mean you're properly COVERED, as your actual coverage selections are up to YOU - and you can really end up sticking it to yourself. With "do it yourself" insurance, you frequently end up "doing it to yourself".
