Some car rentals in Mexico have distance restrictions as you can not take out of the city or state.I suggest "Hertz" or "Thrifty" and be very sure you are fully insured for both drivers or any driver.Getting in a car accident is taken quit seriously when it comes to who is going to pay.Gas here is 70 cents a liter.Get a convertible and some sunscreen.Average cost $60.00 for the whole cost for compact or jeep. There going to hit you for$80.00 for a VanNo bargain in car rentals SorryGringoGringo

if your vehicle has mexican license plates... you have to purchase the insurance through the rental car company. you will probably end up paying more for the insurance than the vehicle. theres just not many options available for you.if you take your own vehicle into mexico,. then the insurance isnt so expensive. i cant tell you exaclty how much it cost becasue it depends on the # of days in mexico, the make and model of your vehicle & the actual cash value of your vehicle.you can buy that sort of insurance online.

If you drive your own American car to Mexico and purchase mexican car ins. for it, it is very cheap..if you shop around. However, since you will be renting a car in a tourist town...that is totally different. You will have to get the ins. from the car rental company and rates in Cancun are surely higher than in non-touristy parts of Mexico. So, unless you have a website to check out the car rental rates ( including the ins. ) in Cancun...you will have to wait and see...ujnless someone with that experience answers too. Hope they do.
