Is it possible to create a forged a car title?

Is it possible to create a forged a car title?

could it be done? how hard would it be to make a fake title?

A class-action lawsuit against Carfax claims the company doesn't have access to police accident data in 23 states -- and therefore doesn't live up to its promise of disclosing hidden problems in used vehicles.Carfax claims its search service is "your best protection against buying a used car with costly, hidden problems." But in their suit, Tennessee attorneys Frank Watson and David McLaughlin charge that Carfax's ads promise more than it can deliver. Carfax fails to disclose the limitations of its database, they said.McLaughlin and Watson charge that auto dealer Mid-South Motors purchased a 1995 BMW 525i from another wholesaler in 2002 after buying a CARFAX report that showed no ?salvage? brands and no police accident or damage disclosure records.A subsequent check of a database maintained by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) revealed that the BMW had been declared a ?total loss? three separate times after accidents in New York, Florida and Georgia that were reflected in police accident records, according to court documents.Similar incidents have been reported to ConsumerAffairs.Com. "My daughter totaled a car that was resold to me by my insurance company and I ran It and It came back clean," said Dennis of Destrehan, La., in a recent complaint.Another consumer, Mitchell of Newport News, Va., said he paid $38,000 for a car that got a clean bill of health from Carfax, only to be told by police that it was stolen.Critics also charge that some unscrupulous dealers are hiding behind a clean Carfax, using it to pass off damaged cars to customers, then claiming ignorance if the consumer

Easy to create one that would look good, but it wouldn't stand up to a DMV check. You can get really good instructions in any prison.

Well people have gone to jail over this. There was a huge bucik/pontiac dealer on Long Island back in the late 90's that was doing just that. He got greedy and forged over 700 to get money loaned to him for supposed motor homes he was building with GMC chassis. It can be done. With color copiers, graphices progams and scanners today most anything can be done. Its like asking can you forge a 100 dollar bill. The technology is exactly the same. Title paper is getting harder and harder to forge. I see forged titles at least 3 - 4 x a month at the auction. People are usually caught and arrested. Its a feloneySource(s):30+ years in the fleet business

Not hard, but, going to jail for "criminal possession of a forged instrument" is.

Sure, it's easy as ever!!!!However, convincing your cellmate, Bubba Ray the Nasty Perv, that you'd really rather not bend over for him is much more difficult.

As the other answers noted - it is very very hard. Most cases of forged car titles actually involve bribing a DMV employee and/or stealing from the DMV to get the official DMV title paper. With this paper you can make a forged title that will pass muster with most people but with all the computer tracking of titles these days - most people who try this get caught pretty quickly.

Sure can.But if someone is that stupid to do forgery for just a car title, then they're probably too stupid to create a believable one too.
