Is there a way to determine who your auto insurance carrier is based on tag or title information?

Is there a way to determine who your auto insurance carrier is based on tag or title information?

My wife aparently has auto insurance, you lose your license in the state of Florida without it, however she has no idea who the coverage is through. Any thoughts?

Fred

How can she not know? How can she not have an insurance card? How can she not know who she made the cheque payable to? How can she not remember going somewhere, meeting someone, and signing some papers? Nobody is that stupid. Unless she has never applied for insurance, period. This is a ridiculous question.

In Maryland, it's printed on the vehicle registration card, but not on the title or tag.

well, if she gets pulled over, the police officer should be able to run her info through and pull it up.orshe can wait for a statement to come in the mail.most tag offices keep the info on file. given that it is correct. She can call and ask them, although, they may laugh at her for not knowing.Source(s):I work for an insurance company

Look back through your bank statements and see who you paid for it.

If it's YOUR car and YOUR tag, it will be on YOUR renewal registration, in most states. If she "apparently" has auto insurance, she needs to check who she's been PAYING for it.She can check her cancelled checks, she's most likely paying once a month, but at LEAST once a year. She can also go down to the DMV with her license and registration, or the local police station. If the car is in her name, and she can prove who she is with a photo id, they will look it up and tell her the name of the company (Which, actually, isn't going to do much good, as you still won't have any CONTACT information, and each "company" can have up to 20 subsidiaries - and the SUBSIDIARY would be the listed carrier, so how would YOU know that "maryland casualty" is a subsidiary of "Zurich"?), but that won't give her the name of the COMPANY.And they're not going to tell ANYONE besides the registered owner, thinking they are likely a stalker. But, if she really has no idea . . .I'd suggest that it's much MORE likely that she let coverage lapse, and is afraid to tell you. Heck, she might have a hold on her license, how would you know? Florida is the uninsured motorist capital of the US - more uninsured drivers there than anywhere else.Source(s):agent, 21+ years

I cannot comprehend how someone would not know who their insurance is with, Especially since you must carry proof of it in your car in the event that you do get pulled over. Check the glove box if there is no insurance card, I would guess that she really does not have any, and without that card if pulled over or in an accident she will be ticketed, and be given only a few days to prove that she in fact does have insurance.

In SOME not all states it is reported to the Department of Licensing (I know they did in Georgia)...so checking with them is an option. Also, if the car's not paid off, SOME not all auto financers require proof on file of who you insured the vehicle through, so there's another option to check through. And like the others said, look through the bank/check statements to see who was paid.

sensibleman

You won't find the info on the tag or title info. Look at your checkbook or credit card statement for the name of the company. Most companies send you a card to carry in the vehicle.

My

well if she paid for it there's got to be some record of it. how in the hell can u not know? i'd say she doesnt have any.

What is the best rated auto insurance in California and why?
That's because there aren't any. There's no one top "best" insurer, as "best" is in the eye of the beholder. To many people, it means cheapest.Source(s):agent, 21+ years

How do I travel across the US with nothing but what I have in my car?
first, get a van. The Dodge has an extra 6 inches of width and allows a double bed to be put across the rear. You can set up a nice platform for the bed and keep most of your gear underneath. With power cords, and electric blanket and heater you have your home away from home in a pinch...

How does auto repair insurance work? Is it normally within or separate from normal car insurance?
Most of the time the auto insurance companies do body jobs since its the outside body that always takes the most hit. If it involves anything deeper than that then it may be considered a total loss.To read more about auto insurance check out this link:http://www.garage411.com/AutoInsurance

What does full coverage auto insurance cover?
You're probably out of luck as far as the GPS and watch. Car insurance ordinarily doesn't cover the contents of the car unless you have a rider for valuable equipment. While it might be covered under your homeowners/renters insurance I suspect their value would is less than your deductible...
