With insurance your G1 is considered a learners permit. Obviously you know that you can only operate a vehicle with a fully licensed driver with you. A lot of online quoting systems are geared towards the norm so when you attempt to get a quote online and mention the G1 is it not configured for that. More information is needed. If you call a company they will be able to advise you on if they can insure you and how much it would cost.I work for an insurance company and we will insure those with a G1 if they are the owner of the vehicle and the only operator in the household (meaning the only licensed driver in the home). If there are others in the home we would rate for them as the main driver and indicate that you are there with your G1. Once you get the G2 the necessary changes could be made. Also with a lot of companies the international license is fine to drive someone else's vehicle temporarily but you can't usually purchase a policy with it. You need to have a Canadian driver's license and even more specific a license for the province you are living in (ie Ontario G2 or G).Hope this helps!Source(s):Facilitator with a Canadian Insurance company that does business in Ontario.

This answer is for Ontario since G1 and G2 licenses are applicable in Ontario. It is possible to purchase auto insurance with a G21 license. Your international driving permit is invalid since you have a G1 license (which means you've taken up residence in Ontario). The problem is very few insurance companies are going to insure a G1 as a principal operator because a G1 is a learner's license (therefore online insurance quoting sites become more useless than usual). You will need to provide the name and license number of the person who will accompany you when you drive with your G1 (you cannot drive by yourself with a G1), and that person will be rated as the principal operator. If you don't have anyone who can fit this role then I know of only one insurer in Ontario who will rate a G1 driver as principal operator. The company is Perth Insurance. You can follow the link below and contact them to find a Perth broker near you. They only work with brokers so they will not give you a quote directly. Contact the broker and work with them. Keep in mind you may not like the price because Perth is a non-standard insurer, but it's pretty much your only choice.Source(s):http://www.economicalinsurance.com/en/ab…

Does a cinnamon red 1997 cadillac cost more to insure than a beige one same model?
I haven't ever had an insurance company ask me the color of the car. In fact I haven't ever seen a form that ask the color of a vehicle. I would have to say no. However, stats have shown that red cars do get ticketed more often than any other color. I really don't think color should impact...
