What are some important things to know about Columbia/Lexington, South Carolina?

Thinking about moving there. I want to know everything about it, from the cost of auto insurance to things to do there. Anything would be appreciated.

don't move here unless you're christian. otherwise you'll be dealing with tons of christians asking you to go to church, asking you why you don't want to go, and also threatening your soul with eternal damnation if you don't believe like they.

Columbia not a bad place to live, I lived there all of my life until i joined the military back in 1998. I 've lived in many different states and countries since then. Columbia offers a nice mix party scene in the 5 points area if you are in to that being that columbia is a college city home of the South Carolina Gamecocks. You have Myrtle beach which is about 1hr 45 min away. Carowinds which is on the NC and SC border that's a 1hr 30 min ride. The best areas to live in the columbia area would be the blythewood area, lake carolina, or many different housing areas off of clemson road. Columbia is a pretty descent size city. Auto insurance is not that high but i will say property tax is high. I have my car registered in florida thank God for military lol. Also you have charleston sc which is a good tourist area for family and friends, it gives you a opportunity to experience the plantation feeling, also you get to take carriage rides as they show you all of the old plantation houses, the port where they use bring in slaves good history area. The people of sc all races are very nice and make you feel welcomed. Crime is just like any place but since hurricane katrina and some of our new residents from louisiana have really affected certain parts of this city both lexington and columbia. Houses are also very reasonable and nice. If you are into sports you have various colleges within the columbia area to attend football games, University of South Carolina, South Carolina state university, Benedict college, Allen University and if you drive about 2 hrs toward Greenville sc you can attend Clemson university, drive toward Myrtle beach and you can attend Coastal carolina football games. Columbia also offers 4 different malls. i forgot to mention the Harbison and Irmo areas are very nice just depends on your job location. Columbia is also home to FT. Jackson Army base. The Lexington Area is very big and it can run right into the columbia area, The two counties would be richland county which is known for columbia and lexington county which is known for lexington. The lexington county area is a diverse community also but in certain parts of lexington they still have major race issues IE (kkk) That's the truth. Lexington county does have a great school system, and they are heavy into sports if you have kids. Honestly columbia and lexington are great places to live it just depends on your job location, financial situation and whats convenient for you. My opinion columbia is the way to go everything is that you possibly would need or want is in columbia, if you live in lexington you will have to come to columbia anyways. The harbison and Irmo area are great that is a part of lexington county and its near Lake murray if you like fishing and boating. I'm allover the place in this forum, but if you have anymore questions just ask.
